SIRE 2.0 END to END Solutions

Our work on SIRE 2.0 dates back to November 2021, with this presentation for the CMMI. Today, we have a complete end-to-end solution for vessel owners & operators, starting from engaging SIRE 2.0 workshops, e-learning courses, Class-approved Inspection apps, to working with HSEQ departments to prepare the vessels for the inspections.

IMO HTW SESSION

February Started with one of the pivotal moments in our organization’s history. On 6th Feb 2024, we presented our concepts of organic mentorship for the modern generation of seafarers at the IMO Plenary Hall in London during the HTW session. It was very well received by delegations worldwide and sparked interest in various directions.

60-second insights

A teenager is less likely to ask for clarification and more likely to Google it. Joe, a 19-year-old cadet, is an introvert. The chief officer ridiculed him for asking a question. He’s in doubt again, but this time, he is determined not to ask the Chief or anyone else on board. How will he learn his job?

While inspecting a lifebuoy, the grab line must be picked up and twisted between your fingers to see if it frails out. If it does, it must be replaced, right? How did you learn this skill?

On-Board Mentorship

by Capt. Debashis Basu

We ran a Poll last month on LinkedIn asking: How often does effective onboard mentorship happen? The overwhelming majority said: Rarely.

Let us understand this. Ours is a hands-on profession, where on-the-job skills are learnt on board. That translates to compliant ships and a safer industry. But if mentorship is rare, are we leaving it to chance?

But why is it rare? The reason is not always obvious. From our extensive study, we identified ten reasons why trickle-down mentorship, seniors teaching juniors, may not happen.

These reasons include language barriers, cultural differences, interpersonal problems, introverted natures, busy schedules or lack of awareness, among others. It is not an exhaustive list, but the problem is very real and deep.

Well, this is our work. Instead of blaming seafarers or the system, we at Navguide bring the classroom to the frontline. We strive to provide structured mentorship in on-the-job skills that translate to performance.
